"Like charity, I believe glamour should begin at home" (Loretta Young)
Thanks to discovering Lottie and some other fabulous bloggers out there, this summer I realised that I needed to re-introduce a bit of glamour into my life. I had a bad time of it (won't bang on about it) and had neglected myself a little. I had given up a bit as I thought there was no point getting glammed up when I didn't really have anything to do.
Of course I wanted to be glamorous for my other half, but I needed to learn a valuable lesson - the person that I needed to be glamorous for was me.
I am a firm believe that we all need a bit of glamour in our lives girls. We all deserve to feel special, and we all deserve to feel good about ourselves! I hate that the word glamour is used for people like Jodie Marsh and Katie Price - we need to take it back ladies.
This summer I took charge and changed my routine and allowed a bit of glamour back in. Here are some little tips to get you started.
Take care of your skin - get yourself into a daily skin routine. It doesn't have to be all singing, all dancing but a basic skincare regime can do wonders. Cleanse each morning and moisturise your face day and night and take your make up off before you go to bed. Drink plenty of water and give yourself a make up free day every now and then. Don't forget to moisturise your body too! Looking after your skin makes you feel and look good, it is the foundation of your beauty and glamour regime!
Look after your nails - whenever I feel a bit down, I can perk myself up with a home manicure. You don't have to be an expert to have nice nails. Just file them, and regularly paint them - they don't even have to be long. Some people prefer fake nails but I like mine natural, I keep them fairly short and always paint them (even if just with a clear gloss). Make sure that you use a base coat when painting your nails with colour or they can stain. If you leave them too long they can look messy and don't bite them! If you feel adventurous there are plenty of great tutorials on the net for various manicures.
What lies beneath is important - underwear is an important factor for glamour in my opinion. For me, it is not just about getting your best underwear out when you want to seduce your other half. Wearing nice underwear can make you feel good even in the plainest of outfits. To be there is no point in wearing nice clothes if you have baggy old washed out knickers and an ill fitting bra.
Clothes maketh the lady - I am not saying you should spend a fortune on a whole new wardrobe, but you are hardly going to feel good about yourself when you are sat in sweats at home. Even when I am at home all day, or just going to the shops I ask myself if I would like to be seen in what I am wearing. There are ways of being comfortable without sacrificing style!
Give yourself some time - this is the most important tip, even if it is an extra 10 mins a day. Giving yourself time is really important. There is probably a lot going on in your life (let's face it, as women we are usually doing a million and one things at any given point of the day!). But you really need to take care of you. You are just as important as the other things going on in your life. So grab some time, light a nice candle and read a book alone, give yourself 10 minutes at your dressing table each morning making yourself feel nice, give yourself a facial/a manicure/a pedicure - switch the technology off and look after you.
So ladies- paint those nails, spray that perfume, and step out in style....
