GEEK VINTAGE

You may be surprised to learn that I do occasionally leave the house and venture out. I took one such magical trip into the real world on Thursday when I went to visit an old friend - if you have a rubbish memory you will be pleased to know that she is also called Nicki (note the different spelling). Before I continue, don't expect to see a photo of Nicki, she's not a fan of getting her photo taken, you will just have to get down to her shop to see her!

I had a lovely day with Nicki, and we caught up, ate cake and drank wine. We also came up with some nifty ideas you may read about soon on here! I also bought a gorgeous dress (which will pop up in a later post!)

Nicki has a vintage shop in Liverpool called Geek, which she has been running for less than a year but I am already a fan. Initially she had small section of Grand Central in Liverpool (which is kind of a hard place to describe, probably 'indoor alternative shopping centre' is about the best description) She now has a shop in Wavetree,  where she has now been for about six weeks, as she wanted somewhere that she could give more of an identity to (the shops in Grand Central all follow into each other and there isn't really room to make them your own).

The thing that I love about the shop is that Nicki has really done something different to a lot of the vintage shops I go to in Liverpool. The look of the shop not based on a 'vintage' theme - it is based on things that Nicki likes. It is not gender specific, i.e. she hasn't gone all out making it a girlie place. She sells both men's and women's clothes, and she has managed to make it appeal to both.

Another great thing about the shop is that not just all about the Vintage trend for Nicki, her reasons are beyond money - the ethical side of vintage clothing is something that is really important to her. She also lovingly selects all the pieces herself from a variety of places (some of the stock is even imported from America) and she cares for the pieces beyond a lot of other vintage shops - everything is mended, washed and ironed and beautifully kept.

The shop also stocks some accessories (such as some amazing hats, which again Nicki cleans before displaying) and hand made jewellery (made by Nicki) - such as some gorgeous feather headbands and kitsch necklaces. This side of the shop will be something that expands as the business grows.
